Avary Hague is a painter and muralist living in Wichita, KS

I grew up moving around the world, constantly enveloped by change and the thrill of new surroundings. This way of living contributed heavily to my ability to be inspired by the seemingly ordinary and mundane. I come from a large family of talented people, to all of whom I credit for the atmosphere that was always bubbling and brimming with creativity that I thrived in.

My work consistently gravitates towards realism, emphasizing every color and putting every detail before the viewer. I feel this is an extremely honest way to create. Édouard Manet famously stated,

” There are no lines in nature, only areas of color, one against another. “

Manet’s words ring true to me and I put them to practice often in my own artistic process. Bit by bit, each stroke of color is meticulously placed until my vision for the piece is realized.

I like to paint things not necessarily exactly as they are, but as I like to see them. Maybe a little brighter, a little more vibrant. Tones contrasting, the difference between warm and cool a little more evident. I like to tell on my subject. Expose all of the flaws and secret details.

I like to put them on display.
